The weeks are flying by. Day 48 so what’s that, 7 weeks done? Pretty good going and just worked it out I have done 23 workouts, so nearly every other day. Not too bad at all.
Sunday means coaching and for the second week in a row I have been tasked with helping out on the Academy, which is a session for U10s and younger, split by age group, first thing in the morning. Why can’t I just have a lie in? Continue reading
Another big game, this time against Southampton…away…long. These guys have put in some really good results this season and we drew 1-1 with them at home. They beat London Eds 4-2 , beat Croydon 6-4 and Sunbury 6-3. All the top 3 sides. So we had to prepare for a very tough match after a long journey down to the south coast, back to where I went to uni.
As always, Saturday is a big day with hockey. This week we face Addiscombe, who are in the bottom half of the table but nonetheless a team we can’t take lightly. Especially after we lost to Romsey the other week.
We had plenty of time to warm up, being first on the pitch for the day and we had a strong, experienced team. First match back for our top goalscorer last season after a few months of illness which was absolutely fantastic to see. He ended up opening the scoring I think and grabbed himself a hat trick. D-day. The biggest game of the season….again. We faced off against London Eds, top of the league and a team that beat us narrowly 1-0 away from home.
This was a must win to keep our promotion hopes alive. Even now those dreams still rely on the results of the other teams in the league but we can’t control that. Just win every game and see what happens. Will be incredibly disappointing if we do manage that and still don’t get promoted and will have to look back at the games we fucked up in and realise we have to spend another season with these teams. We had a bit of a journey ahead of us down to the South Coast again to visit Romsey, a team languishing at the bottom of the league with 1 win. Always tough when you have a long journey and might expect to win…dangerous thinking.
We arrived at various times at some posh school in the middle of nowhere on a cold windy day and trekked our way down to the pitch. It was an ok warm up and there was an air of confidence, however that quickly dissipated as the game went on. Continue reading
It’s Saturdaayyy, woop woop. Gotta love the weekend and it was quite a busy Saturday I had planned. Had a golf lesson in the morning followed by our match against Winchester, then I headed up to Hertford to see my housemates from Uni for a night out.
It was crunch time again for hockey, as we faced Winchester 2s at home, who had beaten us 7-1 away, after being 1-1 at half time. It was quite possibly the most embarrassing and shocking result I have ever been a part of and we were determined to win this time.
A win today would edge us closer to the top and keep the pressure on the top 4. We have to win to challenge for promotion. Continue reading
Today is Saturday and therefore it was gameday.
This week we faced Camberley & Farnborough 1s. A team that is struggling towards the bottom of the table who we beat 3-2 in the away fixture, however we still need to be wary of all the teams in the league and put in a professional 100% performance each week.
Turns out we did just that and we ended up having our first emphatic win of the season, winning 10-2. Continue reading
